Note: this took me a long time fiddling with win xp, printspooler, restarts, re-installing drivers etc.

I purchased this printer around 12 months ago and simply love it, mainly due to the auto duplex that make printing out PDF such an easy task. Opening it will fail, no spooler.Ĭheck again, opening the lbp printer should now produce the windows printer box with it's status "ready" Note that the canon tray printerthingy wont report normally, but you should now be able to print stuff I notice that there are a number of posting in regards 64-bit drivers for Canon printers but no other posting for the Canon LBP 5100. Go to startmenu>programs>startup and remove the statusthingy from canon.Ĭhange the usb devices settings to connected.Ĭheck the printer devices, it should show the lbp1120. With the printer connected and running start win XP virtual. When everything is installed you should shutdown and restart. It's an exe that can be found at the canon driver site.

Make sure to get the canon dep prevention solution and install that as well. There is a known bug in canon's CAPT driver crashing the spooler service through UMBus enumerator. Also check the usb device reverting to shared. Copy those from your original download to the virtual disk before running them. Install the winxp drivers in the virtual machine through devices>new printer. Change that to connect, disabling it in Windows 7. The usb section should list it as shared. Get the integration modules going for the printer. You need virtual machines for this running win xp. Not for the faint of heart though, you have to be comfortable with your os. It should work for win8, didn't test that but this guide might still be usefull. It is in fact possible to connect a lasershot 1120 to a Windows 7 圆4 machine.
